We spend most of our days up here on the second floor of the Matoo Complex. If you know Red Cross Road in Srinagar, you know it gets pretty busy around here. Nisar Nayak and the rest of us share this space with Concord Associates. It's not a fancy place, just a regular office where we handle the telecom stuff for the area. Mr. Khurshid Bhat is around often too. The stairs are a bit steep, so we usually just stay up here once we arrive in the morning. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit, but that is just how it is in this part of town. We’ve got desks, some old filing cabinets, and a lot of wires everywhere. Most people just come in when they have a problem with their connection or need to sort out some paperwork. We try to keep things moving. It gets cold in the winter, so we usually have a small heater going under the table. You can hear the traffic from the street below all day long. It's a lot of noise, but you get used to it after a few months. We aren't doing anything groundbreaking, just keeping the phones and internet working for the folks nearby. It is a steady job. We drink a lot of tea to stay warm and keep our energy up while we deal with the daily lists and customer queries that come through the door.
