The Daily Etalaat

The office for The Daily Etalaat is situated in the Shahampora area of Nowhatta in Srinagar. Being in the heart of the old city, there is always something going on just outside our doors. We are a newspaper, so the atmosphere inside is usually a bit frantic, especially as we get closer to the printing deadline. The rooms are filled with the smell of ink and the sound of people typing or talking on their phones. We have stacks of old editions piled up against the walls and large tables where we lay out the pages. It is definitely not a modern, polished media office. The wooden floors creak when you walk, and the lighting is a bit dim in certain corners. We all live here in Kashmir, so we care a lot about the news we are putting out for our readers. Sometimes we have to deal with power cuts or slow internet, which makes getting the paper out on time a real challenge. We just put in the extra hours when we have to. There is a small tea shop nearby where we all go to clear our heads for a few minutes. It is a tough business to be in, but we have a good group of people who are used to the grind. We just keep working away at our desks in Nowhatta to make sure the news reaches people every morning.
