Working for Konkan Railway Corporation here in Kashmir is quite a task. Most of our days are spent out in the open or in temporary setups near the tracks. It is not like a regular office job where you sit in a comfortable chair all day. We deal with the mountains, the weather, and a lot of heavy machinery. The landscape is beautiful, sure, but it makes the work hard. We are just a bunch of people trying to get the railway lines sorted out in this part of India. You will see us in our gear, often covered in a bit of dust or mud depending on if it rained the night before. There is a lot of talking over the noise of engines and tools. We eat our meals together at the site, usually just whatever is simple and filling. It’s a long process, building things out here, and we take it one day at a time. We don't really have a fancy front desk or a lobby for visitors. If you find us, it’s probably because you’re involved in the project too. We just focus on the sleepers, the rails, and the tunnels. It’s practical work that needs a lot of patience. Some days are slow because of the snow or the rain, and other days we are moving as fast as we can. It’s just how it goes on the Kashmir line, trying to build something that lasts through the seasons.
