Down in Chawalgam village, in the Kulgam district, is where you’ll find our site office. It’s a bit of a drive from the main town, but we are right in the middle of where the work is happening. The air is often filled with dust from the trucks coming and going, which is just part of being in construction. We’ve got a small building here that serves as our base, mostly filled with maps, site plans, and a lot of safety gear piled in the corners. It’s not the cleanest place because of all the mud we track in from the fields. We spend our mornings checking the progress and talking to the local crews about what needs to be done next. The weather here in Kulgam can be unpredictable, so we are always keeping an eye on the clouds. If it rains too hard, everything stops. We eat our lunch together on some old wooden benches, usually talking about things other than work just to take a break. It's a practical kind of life out here. We don't have fancy office chairs or air conditioning; we just have what we need to get the job done. People from the village often stop by to ask about work or just to see what we are building this time. It’s a slow but steady process, and we are just one small part of the whole operation. Most of us wear heavy boots all day.
