Manovikas English Medium School

Down in Fatorda, Goa, our school has its own little corner. It’s a pretty quiet area compared to the tourist spots on the coast, which is nice for a school setting. The building is solid and has been through many heavy monsoons over the years. You can see the wear and tear on the outside walls if you look closely, but we try to keep it looking decent with a fresh coat of paint whenever we can afford it. The mornings are usually cool and pleasant, and you can hear the birds before the students start arriving at the gate. We have a lot of open space and trees around the perimeter, which helps keep the place feel a bit more relaxed than a city school. The staff room is usually full of talk about the weekend or what’s happening in the local town. We are an English medium school, so that’s what we focus on for the kids, but the local Goan vibe is still very much there in everything we do. The kids come from all over Fatorda and even some from the nearby Margao area. It’s a mix of families who have lived in this part of Goa forever. We don’t have a lot of high-tech gadgets in every room, just the usual chalkboards and wooden desks. It’s a practical environment for learning. We show up, we teach, and we go home.
