Down here in South Goa, life moves at a different pace than what you see in the tourist spots. I’m based at House No. 735 in Pedem, which is a small part of Loliem in Canacona. My name is Akshay, and I’ve lived in this area for most of my life. This isn't a fancy office with a receptionist; it’s just my family home where I’ve carved out some space to get my work done. You’ll find me here most days, tucked away from the main road. The trees around the house keep it cool even when the sun is really beating down in the afternoon. I started doing this because I wanted to stay local rather than moving up to the bigger cities. Most of the people I deal with are from around here or have heard of me through friends. It’s a small community in Loliem, so reputation matters more than any advertisement could. I handle the paperwork and the meetings right here. Sometimes we sit out on the porch if the weather is nice. It’s a very straightforward way of working. I don’t use complicated systems or anything like that. Just a computer, a phone, and a lot of lists. It’s important to me that things are done right the first time, so I don’t rush. If you ever find yourself in Canacona, you’ll see that things are pretty quiet, which suits me just fine for the kind of work I do. I usually have a dog sleeping near my feet while I work, which is much better than any office environment I can think of.
