Surendra Residency

We’ve been running this place at A/2/9 in Safdarjung Enclave for a while now. Being on the third floor means there's a bit of a climb or an elevator ride, but once you’re up here, it’s away from the street noise. Right across from us is Bikaji Kama Palace, so we see that building every single day when we look out. Most days are just about making sure everything is in order. We spend a lot of time checking the rooms and making sure the water is running fine. It's a busy part of Delhi, so there’s always something happening outside on the road. We try to keep things simple here. Sometimes the traffic downstairs gets loud, but that’s just how it is in this neighborhood. We don’t have any fancy bells or whistles, just a regular place for people to stay when they’re in the city for work or visiting family. My cousin helps me with the cleaning and we usually start early in the morning before the sun gets too hot. Most people find us because of the location since the palace is a big landmark. It’s a practical spot if you need to be in this part of town. We’ve had all sorts of folks stay with us over the years. We just do our jobs and try to keep the place decent for whoever walks through the door next. We don't really have a big staff, so we do most of the heavy lifting ourselves.
