Over in Begum Pur, specifically at 135-A in Malviya Nagar, our seed shop has been a fixture for a long time. New Universal Seeds Supply Company isn't trying to be anything other than a reliable source for planting needs. We have bags and containers of different seeds stacked up everywhere. It smells like earth and dried husks inside, which is something you get used to pretty fast. People from all over the area come by to see what we have for the current season. We spend a lot of time talking about the weather and how the soil is looking. It’s the kind of place where you might have to wait a minute while we find exactly what you’re looking for in the back. We don't use fancy computer systems for everything; a lot of it is written down in notebooks. The shop is small and can get a bit dusty, but that’s just the nature of the business. We focus on making sure the seeds are kept dry and ready for whoever needs them. Malviya Nagar is a crowded place, but our little spot in Begum Pur feels like its own world. We’ve seen many seasons come and go. Every year is a bit different depending on the rain and the heat. We just try to keep the shelves stocked and help out the folks who walk through the door. It’s basic work, but it’s what we know after all these years.
