Bharat Seeds Center

We’ve been running the seed center out of these flats in Sheikh Sarai Phase-I for quite some time. Number 12 in the RPS Flats is where we keep all our supplies and handle the day-to-day business. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze sometimes with all the bags and packets we have stored around the place, but we make it work. Most of our day is spent talking to people who come by looking for specific things for their gardens or farms. We have to be careful with the storage because the humidity in Delhi can be a problem for the stock if we aren't paying attention. The neighbors in the flats are used to seeing people coming and going from our door. It’s a lived-in kind of place, with papers stacked on the tables and a faint smell of earth and dried plants in the air. We don't have any flashy signs out front, just the address and the name. Often, the phone rings more than we’d like, but that’s part of the job. We keep a ledger for everything, though we’ve started using a computer for some of it now to make things a bit faster. It’s just a few of us here, and we’ve learned over the years which seeds do well in which season. It isn't a high-tech business, just a lot of manual work and keeping things organized so we don't lose track of what's in the back.
