Mahmila Farmer Producer Company works out of Ward No. 1 in the Purab Mohalla area. We are based at Awadhesh Kumar’s place in Robertsganj. It’s a busy neighborhood where kids are usually playing in the street and everyone kind of knows each other's business. Being a farmer company, we spend most of our time talking about seeds and what is growing this season. It is not a fancy setup at all. We just sit together and figure out how to manage our crops better and maybe get a better price. Sometimes we meet on the porch or in a small room inside. There are quite a few of us involved now. We try to help each other out with the selling part because doing it alone is tough. Robertsganj can get really hot in the summer, so we usually try to get our main work done very early or late in the evening. We aren't professionals in suits or anything like that. We are just local people trying to make a decent living from the land we have. It is hard work and sometimes things don't go as planned with the weather. Having this group helps us not feel so alone when things get difficult. People drop by to ask questions or just to see how the market is looking. We keep our records in simple books and try not to lose them. It’s a bit crowded in the office area sometimes. We just do what needs doing to keep things moving.
