Sangharshsheel Mahila Agro Farmers Producer Company Limited was started by the women here in Bahuta and Patti. It’s not always easy for women to get their voices heard in the farming business, so we decided to start our own thing. Indrawati and several others from the village got together to make this happen. We spend our mornings in the fields and then try to find time to handle the company business in the afternoons. It’s a lot of work, but we are used to that. We grow our crops, look after the animals, and now we are learning how to manage the selling part of it too. We don’t have fancy equipment or a big warehouse. Most of the time, we are just meeting in someone's courtyard to discuss the price of grain or who needs help with their harvest. It’s a very local effort and we take it one day at a time. We called it "Sangharshsheel" because it has been a struggle, but we are stubborn people who don't give up easily. We want to make sure our children see that we can run things ourselves. We are just normal villagers in Bahuta who wanted to have more control over our own lives and our own land. There’s no corporate polish here, just honest work and a lot of effort from all the women involved. We are just trying to make a decent living from the soil we’ve always known.
