Vishwanath Hair Saloon

Down here at Kamran Chowk, the days go by pretty fast. Solapur is a busy place, and being right at the junction means we see everything that happens on the street from our front step. Vishwanath Hair Saloon has been in this spot for a while now. It is just a small room with high ceilings and a couple of large mirrors that have seen better days. The floor is made of old stone that stays cool even when the weather is dry and dusty outside. We do not have any of those modern gadgets you see in the big malls in the city. We just use our hands and the same shears we have trusted for a long time. There is a particular smell of aftershave and talcum powder that stays in the air from morning until we close up at night. We have a small radio that plays local stations, mostly just for background noise so it is not too quiet when there is no one talking. Most of our customers are from the 413001 area, people we have known since they were kids. They come in, sit down, and we already know what they want without them having to say much. It is an honest way to spend the day. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to open the doors wide to let the light in from the chowk. We just keep going until the work is done. It is just a local shop for local people.
