Rohit Salon

Our shop, Rohit Salon, is located at Shop No 26 on the Main Road in Solapur. Being right on the main street means we get a lot of people walking in who are just passing by. Solapur is a busy city and it can get quite dusty outside, so I spend a lot of my time sweeping the floor and wiping down the mirrors. I have been a barber for most of my life and I opened this shop about ten years ago. It’s a straightforward setup with three chairs and a small bench for customers to wait on. We don't do anything fancy like hair coloring or complicated styles. Most of the men who come in just want a quick haircut or a clean shave so they look neat for work. I work mostly by myself, but my brother helps out during the festival seasons when everyone wants to look their best. We have a small television in the corner that is usually tuned to the news or a movie. It gives people something to look at while I work. The tools I use are old but reliable, and I sharpen them myself every few days. It is hard work being on my feet all day, especially when it gets hot, but I like being my own boss. It’s a simple, local business and we try to treat everyone who comes in with respect. It works out okay.
