Milin Salon

Solapur is a pretty dry place most of the year, so it gets dusty inside Milin Salon quite often. We spend a good amount of time just wiping down the counters and the chairs before anyone even shows up. The shop is located in the 413001 area, which is central enough but not too crazy like the main market can be. It's just a small space where men from the neighborhood come to get their hair trimmed or a quick shave. Usually, the morning starts with the sound of the shutters going up and the smell of the shop which is a mix of talcum powder and aftershave. We don’t have those big leather chairs that tilt all the way back, just some sturdy ones that have been here for a while now. Most of the guys who come in don't say much, they just sit down and tell us what they want. Sometimes we talk about the local news or the cricket scores if there’s a match going on. It’s a quiet routine for the most part. We have a small radio that stays on in the background, playing whatever station has the best signal that day. There isn't much to the decor, just a few mirrors that have seen better days and some old posters on the wall that have started to fade at the edges. It’s just a place to get things done without any fuss or fancy talk.
