Bahadur Prasad & Sons

Bahadur Prasad & Sons is tucked away in the M R Compound over in Naya Bazar. We are on the ground floor, which is good because we move a lot of heavy stuff every day. The compound is always crowded with carts and people shouting, which is just how Naya Bazar is. Our shop is old, with high shelves that go all the way to the ceiling and wooden counters that have been worn smooth over the decades. We’ve been doing this for a long time, passed down through the family. There are old ledgers sitting around and the smell of spices and paper in the air. We don’t have a website or a fancy logo. People know us because we’ve been in the same spot forever. It gets dark in the back of the store, so we have a few bare bulbs hanging down to see what we are doing. The phone rings a lot, usually someone asking if we have something in stock or when their delivery is coming. We take our time with things and don't like to rush, especially when it comes to checking the books at the end of the day. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting and carrying, and dealing with the heat in the summer. We are just a family business trying to get through the day's work. Every evening we lock the heavy metal shutters and go home, knowing we will do the exact same thing tomorrow morning when the market wakes up.
