Our office, Route The Himalayas, is tucked away in P. C. Chamber over in Lower Jakhoo. If you know Shimla, you know Jakhoo is a bit of a climb. We are down in the lower part, so it’s not too bad to get to, but the roads are narrow. We spend our days thinking about the trails and the high passes. It is just a few of us in a small room with maps pinned to the walls. Some of those maps are getting pretty old now. We don't have fancy brochures or a marketing team. We mostly just talk to people who find their way to our door. The mountain life is what we know. Sometimes we're out of the office for days because we are actually up there on the routes ourselves. When we are here, we are usually on the phone trying to find out if a certain road is open or if the snow has cleared. It’s a bit unorganized sometimes, with papers piled up on the desks and empty tea cups everywhere. We don't pretend to be some big travel agency from the city. We are just local folks who know the way. If someone asks for a route, we tell them the truth about how hard it might be. We aren't here to make things sound better than they are. The mountains are tough, and we just help people get through them. It’s not much more than that really.
