Our group is the Thammampatty Wood Carvers Producercompany Limited. This town has a long history with wood carving, and we are just trying to keep that tradition alive while also making sure the carvers actually get paid what they deserve. Our workspace is always filled with the smell of wood shavings and the sound of chisels hitting hammers. It’s not a quiet place, and it’s definitely not a clean one. There is dust everywhere, but that just shows we are working. We aren't corporate people in suits. We are craftsmen who have spent decades learning how to turn a piece of wood into something else. Some of the older guys here have been doing this since they were kids. We formed this company to help with the business side of things because most carvers just want to carve, not deal with paperwork. We have our struggles, especially when wood prices go up or people start looking for cheaper, machine-made stuff. But we stick together in our shop on Gandhi Nagar Road and just keep focused on the craft. It is simple, hard work that takes a lot of patience and a steady hand. Every piece we make has a lot of hours behind it.
