Out here on Nangavalli Main Road, you will find Babyemufarm (ind) Pvt. Ltd. We are located in Kunchandiyur, which is part of the Konur area in Mettur. This part of Salem district is where we keep our emus. Running an emu farm is not like keeping cows or goats. These birds are tall and can be quite a handful when they get excited. Our days are filled with feeding the birds and making sure their pens are clean. We spend a lot of time outdoors, so we are usually covered in dust or mud depending on the weather. The farm is a quiet place except for the sounds the birds make. We do not have a big corporate team here. It is just a group of us who know how to handle these animals. We have been doing this for several years and have learned a lot about what the birds need to stay healthy. Sometimes visitors stop by to see the farm because emus are not something you see every day. We show them around if we are not in the middle of chores. It is physical work, and our backs often ache by the end of the day. We grow some of the feed ourselves when the rains are good. It is a practical way to live, and we stay busy from morning until night taking care of the property and the animals. We do not use many fancy machines, mostly just our hands and some basic tools.
