Swavlamban Mushroom Growers Producer Company Limited

We are based out of Village Oriya in the Hazaribagh district, specifically at Sumitra Devi’s house. This whole thing started because we wanted to focus on growing mushrooms in this part of Jharkhand. Hazaribagh has the right kind of air for it sometimes, though it can be tricky to get the temperature right in the sheds. We aren't some big industrial factory. It’s just us local folks in the Sadar block trying to make a living from something other than the usual crops. We spend a lot of time checking on the bags and making sure everything is damp enough. It’s a bit of a messy job, but it’s ours. We don't have a fancy website or a sales team. If you want to talk to us, you usually have to come down to the village and find us in the back where the growing happens. We deal with the local markets and try to get the mushrooms sold before they lose their freshness. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to scramble, or the supplies don't arrive on time from the city. That’s just how it goes here. We are just simple people working hard to make this mushroom business work for our families. It takes a lot of patience and some long hours, but we like being our own bosses. It’s a different kind of farming than what our parents did, but it works for us.
