If you go looking for us, you’ll find us at Shri Ganeswar Sahu’s place in Hathbandh. He’s been kind enough to let the Gramin Simga Farmer Producer Company use his space for our meetings and keeping our files. Hathbandh is a busy little spot, and there’s always someone coming or going. We started this group because the individual farmers in the Simga area were struggling to get good prices for their stuff. It’s a lot easier when you have a name behind you like a producer company. We handle all kinds of things related to the local crops. It’s mostly about making sure we have enough supplies for everyone when the season starts. We don't have any fancy mission statements or things like that written on the walls. We just have a list of who needs what and who has what ready for sale. Ganeswar spends a lot of time on his phone trying to coordinate things between the different farms. It’s a lot of talk and a lot of walking around. Some days are slow, but when it’s time to sow or reap, the whole place is buzzing. We like being local. It means we can trust the people we’re working with. If there’s a problem, we just walk over and talk it out. That’s how we’ve always done it here, and being a company hasn’t changed that much. We just keep at it and hope for the best for the village.
