Sonahatu Aajeevika Mahila Producer

We are the Sonahatu Aajeevika Mahila Producer. Our main spot is right in the Sonahatu Blockcampus, over by the Bazar Tar. It’s a busy area, especially on market days when everyone is coming and going. We are a group of women who decided to organize ourselves to better handle our produce and livelihoods. Being right there at the block campus makes it easier to deal with the official stuff and stay connected with what is happening in the community. Our room isn't very large, but we make it work. There’s always someone coming in with a question or a bag of something they’ve grown. We don't have a secretary or anyone like that; we just handle the phone and the books ourselves. The noise from Bazar Tar usually drifts in through the windows while we are working. It feels right being in the middle of where things are actually being bought and sold. We aren't experts in business talk, but we know how to run this producer group. We’ve had to learn everything from scratch, from the legal bits to how to keep the accounts straight. It's a lot of manual work and long hours sometimes. We just want to make sure the women here have a fair shake. It is a local effort for local people. We might not have a big office, but we have plenty of work to do every single day in the campus.
