Prakash Bricks

Our brickyard, Prakash Bricks, is out in Village- Kairow. It’s a rural area, so things move a bit slower out here compared to the city. We rely a lot on the seasons. When the monsoon hits, we mostly have to stop production because the clay won't dry and the pits get flooded. So, we work extra hard during the dry months to make sure we have enough stock to last. It’s a simple operation. We have the pits where we get the soil, and we mix it right there on-site. The whole village knows where we are. We don't have an office with a desk; we usually just talk to people out by the stacks. My kids sometimes help out with the smaller tasks after school. It’s a family-run kind of thing. The bricks we make are used for local houses and farm buildings mostly. We don't worry about being the most modern place around. We just want to make sure the bricks are solid and that we can provide for our neighbors. It's a lot of physical labor, bending over the molds and carrying the heavy loads to the kiln, but it’s what we’ve always done. If you come by Kairow and ask for the brickyard, anyone will point you our way. We’re just here doing our thing and trying to make an honest living. Sometimes we run out of stock during peak building months, so people know to call ahead.
