If you ever find yourself walking down Radium Road in Ranchi, you will likely see our sign. Maharaja Inn Pvt. Ltd has been operating from this spot in Jharkhand for a good while now. It is a decent place to work. The road outside gets really crowded during the middle of the day, so getting a car into the driveway requires some patience. We spend most of our time checking on the rooms and making sure nothing is broken. It isn't like those massive five-star hotels where everything feels stiff and cold. We are just a local inn. The kitchen staff usually starts cooking early, and you can smell the spices all through the hallway by eleven. Sometimes the power goes out, which is common here, but we just get the generator going and keep moving. We don't have a marketing department or people writing fancy slogans for us. We just make sure the beds are tidy and the floors are clean. Most of our guests are people who have been staying with us for years. They know the staff by name and we know theirs. It makes the day feel a bit shorter when you can actually have a real conversation with the people coming through the door. Ranchi is changing fast, but Radium Road still feels like home to us. We just keep the doors open and do our daily chores.
