Kutra Women Farmers Producer Company Limited

We started Kutra Women Farmers Producer Company Limited a while back because we needed a way to organize things better for the local women here. Our office is at Ananta Kumar Sahoo’s place in Purkapali, Bargaon. It’s not a big fancy building, just a spot where we meet up to talk about the crops and what seeds we need for the next season. Life out here in Kutra is mostly about the land and making sure the harvest comes in right. Most of us have been farming since we were kids, learning from our mothers and grandmothers. We realized that working together makes more sense than trying to handle everything alone. Sometimes the weather doesn't help us out much, but we keep going. We deal with whatever crops are in season and try to get a fair price when it's time to sell. It is hard work, honestly. We spend long days in the fields and then come together to figure out the paperwork and the accounts. It’s a lot to manage, but we are learning as we go. You can usually find someone at the office if you need to ask about the produce or how the group is doing. We aren't trying to be some big corporate entity, just local women looking after our families and our fields. It’s been a journey for all of us in Purkapali. We just want to keep things moving forward for the next generation of farmers in this part of Bargaon.
