Karanpura Jaggery Producer Company Limited

We are over in Kandtari, which is part of the Barkagaon area in Hazaribagh. Most of what we do here revolves around jaggery. We have a lot of sugarcane around these parts. It’s a messy job, making jaggery, but it’s what we know how to do. The smell of boiling juice is something you get used to quickly. We aren't a big factory with machines doing everything. It’s mostly hands-on work with the local guys. We set up our pans and get the fires going. It takes a lot of wood and a lot of patience. The weather in Hazaribagh can be a bit unpredictable, which affects the cane. We just work with what we have each season. People come from the nearby villages to get their supply. We don't have a fancy store, just the place where we make it. Sometimes things break and we have to fix them ourselves. It's just a small group of us trying to keep this traditional way of making jaggery alive. It’s hard work and the days are long when the cane is ready. We don't have a marketing team or anything like that. We just make the jaggery and sell it to those who need it. It’s honest work and we’ve been doing it for a while now. There's no secret to it, just heat and time and a bit of sweat. We plan to keep doing this as long as we can because it's what our families have done for a long time.
