Irrigrow Mahila Farmer Producer Company Limited is based at Niranjan Mahto’s place in War Mahtoat. It is a group for the women farmers in this part of the country. We focus a lot on how to get water to the crops, which is why we picked the name Irrigrow. Our office is just a part of the house where we can sit down and keep our books. It’s not very big, but it’s where all the decisions happen. We don't have any fancy equipment, just our hands and our knowledge of the land. Niranjan helps us out with the space, and it’s a central spot for the women to gather. Often, we are sitting outside if the weather is nice, talking about which fields need more attention. We are all neighbors, so we don't have to be formal with each other. Sometimes the meetings take a long time because everyone has something to say about their own crops. We deal with the daily struggles of farming, like pests or not having enough rain when it is needed. It’s a real grassroots thing. We don't have any corporate bosses in suits telling us what to do. We just look at what our farms need and try to find a way to make it happen. War Mahtoat is a quiet village, and we like it that way. If you come by, you’ll see us working on the ledgers or maybe just sharing some food while we plan.
