Over here in Khatri Gaonsingri, things move at their own pace. We started Chaukhutiya Krishak Vikas Producer Company Limited because it felt right for the farmers in our area around Rampur. Shyam Singh’s place is where we mostly get together to sort out what’s happening with the season's crops. It’s not a big setup with shiny desks or computers everywhere, just a room where we sit and figure out who is growing what. The land here is good if you treat it right, though the wild animals sometimes make things difficult for us. We spend a lot of time walking between the fields and checking on the water. It’s a group effort, really. Everyone chips in when it’s time to harvest or move bags around. We aren't some big city company with a marketing team, we are just the people you see every day at the local market. Life in this part of Chaukhutiya is simple but busy. Sometimes we get the orders mixed up or the phone signal is bad, but we always get the work done eventually. It’s about sticking together so the small farms don’t get left behind. We use the old ways mostly, with a little bit of new stuff when we can afford it. That’s pretty much us, just a bunch of neighbors working the land and hoping for a good rain.
