Arvind Stone Industries

Arvind Stone Industries is right in the middle of Bazar No. 4. Being in the bazar means it is always crowded and there is a lot of energy around. It is quite different from being out in a quiet industrial zone. We have to be very careful with how we move things because the lanes are narrow and there are people everywhere. Our family has been involved in the stone trade for a while, and this shop is where we spend most of our waking hours. We sell various types of local stones that people use for stairs or small patches of flooring. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes when we have a lot of stock, but we make it work. Customers are mostly locals or contractors who are working on nearby houses. We talk a lot, drink a lot of tea, and negotiate prices every day. It’s the way things are done here. There is no corporate structure or department for this and that. If you come in, you talk to whoever is behind the desk, usually me or my cousin. We handle everything from taking orders to making sure the stone is cut to the right size. It’s a noisy, dusty, and busy life in the bazar, but we are used to it and wouldn't really know what to do in a quiet office. We just keep going, day after day, through the heat and the rain.
