Kamal Kota Stone Company

Bazar No. 1 is a pretty lively place to be. It’s always crowded and there is always something going on right outside our doors. We’ve been focusing on Kota stone here for a long time. It’s a very specific kind of material, mostly those blues and greens that everyone around here likes for their courtyards. Our space isn't huge, but we pack a lot into it. Because we are in the bazaar, we get all sorts of people walking by. Some are just looking, and some are actually ready to buy a whole truckload for a new project. We spend a lot of time talking to customers about the thickness of the stones and how they should be laid down. Kota stone is tough stuff, which is why people like it, but it’s heavy to move around in such a tight street. We have to be quick when the delivery trucks come so we don't block the whole bazaar for too long. It’s a bit of a scramble sometimes. The walls of our shop are stained from years of stone being moved in and out. It’s not the sort of place where you’d wear your best clothes. We just wear what’s comfortable for lifting and getting a bit dirty. It’s a local business through and through, and we know most of the other shopkeepers around here by name. It’s just how the bazaar life works.
