In Thirumalapura Village, things move a bit slower, and that’s how we like it. We are the Ramanagara Mahila Horticulture Farmers Producer Company Limited. It’s a group of women from around the Motagondanahalli area who decided to work together. Most of us have our own small gardens or plots where we grow fruits and vegetables. We spend our mornings picking whatever is ripe and then we meet up to talk about where it’s all going. Horticulture is a lot of work because plants are picky. If it’s too dry, you’re out there with buckets; if it’s too wet, things rot. We’ve all seen it happen. Our place in Posolur Ho isn't anything special to look at, just a spot where we can gather and organize our harvests. It’s nice to have the other women around because farming can feel lonely if you’re just in your own field all day. We talk about our families and the prices of seeds while we work. It’s a practical way to live. We aren’t trying to be some massive corporation. We just want to make sure the work we do with our hands in the Ramanagara soil pays off. It’s about community and keeping our local traditions alive while we try to learn a few new tricks about farming. It's better than doing it all alone.
