Triveni Iron & Steel at C-31, Chankya Apartment, Shroff Road. Having an office in Chankya Apartment is a bit different from being in a big warehouse. It’s a residential-cum-commercial building on Shroff Road. Triveni Iron & Steel operates out of unit C-31. It’s a quiet enough place compared to the main market. We have a few desks, a computer that’s a bit slow, and a lot of binders full of records. The walls are painted a simple cream color, and we have a few calendars hanging up. Most of our work is done over the phone or through messages these days. We coordinate the movement of iron and steel from the suppliers to the customers. It’s a lot of talking and checking numbers. Sometimes people come by to discuss orders, and we offer them a chair and some water. The balcony looks out over the street, and it’s a good place to stand for a minute when you need a break. We don't have a big sign outside, just a small one by the door. The building staff are friendly and we’ve known them for years. It’s a steady kind of job. We aren't trying to change the world; we’re just trying to make sure things get to where they need to go on time. Lunch is usually a quiet affair. We close the door for an hour and just relax. It’s a comfortable routine that works for us. I suppose we’ve gotten used to the pace of this place.
