Swati Metals

We are over on Navrangpara Main Road in the Mavdi Plot area. If you’ve been around here, you know it’s a hub for metalwork. Swati Metals is right in the middle of it. We deal with all sorts of metal pieces and scraps. The yard is usually full of stacks of different materials. It isn't the most organized place in the world, but we know where everything is. Mostly. Moving heavy metal around is hard work and it makes your back ache by the end of the shift. We don't have an office with a view, unless you count looking out at the trucks unloading on the main road. The heat in the summer makes the metal almost too hot to touch, so we wear thick gloves that are always worn out at the fingertips. We’ve been at this spot for years. People come to us when they need a specific type of metal or if they have stuff to get rid of. We don't do much talking; we just weigh things out and settle up. It’s a straightforward business. No one here wears a tie. We wear old shirts that we don't mind getting torn or stained with rust. Mavdi Plot is a gritty place, but it's where we belong. We keep our heads down and handle the metal as it comes in. It is not a complicated way to live, but it’s what we’ve always done. We just keep the piles moving day after day.
