Mitu Fabrication

Mitu Fabrication is based in Metoda - Gidc. If you know Metoda, you know it’s all about industrial work. Our shed is usually filled with the sound of grinding and welding. It’s a noisy place, and there’s always a bit of smoke or dust in the air. We wear our heavy boots and keep at it all day. We do a lot of iron and steel work, mostly custom stuff that people ask for. Someone comes in with a sketch on a piece of paper, and we try to make it out of metal. It doesn't always come out looking like a piece of art, but it’s strong and it does the job. The sun beats down on the metal roof and it gets really hot in the middle of the afternoon. We usually take a break then and sit under the fan with some cold water. Our tools are old but they still work fine if you know how to handle them. The floor is concrete and covered in scraps of metal. We try to clear it out once a week. Being in Gidc means we are surrounded by other workshops, so there’s always the sound of hammers or machines in the background. We don't do much talking while we work because of the noise. It’s just a place where we bend and join metal to make things people need for their factories or homes.
