Steel Well

We are based on Sorathiyawadi Street 6 just off the Kothariya Main Road. It is a loud area because of all the heavy traffic and the other workshops nearby doing the same kind of work. We deal with a lot of steel parts so there is always the sound of metal hitting metal or the loud screech of a saw cutting through a pipe. My clothes usually end up with some grease or black dust on them by the time lunch rolls around. The shop is basically a large open space with a high tin ceiling to keep it from getting too hot but in the peak of summer it is still very warm. We have stacks of pipes and flat sheets leaning against the walls in every corner. Moving them around takes some real strength and we have to be careful not to drop anything on the floor. I spend a lot of my time measuring things out and making sure the cuts are in the right place. It is not the kind of job where you can stay clean for long but it is honest work. The tea guy comes around at eleven and that is usually when we take a short break. We do not have a big office, just a small desk in the corner with a calendar and a phone that rings too much. The main road is always dusty and that dust blows right into the shop whenever a big truck passes by.
