Balvi Fabrication

We are set up at number 2, Gopal Park, right at Ahir Chowk on the Bolbala Main Road. It’s a busy spot in Nehru Nagar near Dhebar Road South. Our workshop is usually filled with the smell of welding and the sound of hammers hitting iron. We have our tools spread out on the workbenches and pieces of half-finished gates or window grills lying around. Being on the main road means people often stop by just because they saw us working as they drove past. We spend a lot of time outside on the pavement if we are working on something particularly big that won't fit inside. The sun can be quite harsh in the middle of the day, so we try to do the heavy welding in the shade. We’ve got black marks on our clothes and sometimes little burns from the sparks, but that is just what happens in fabrication. We don't have a receptionist or a fancy waiting area. If someone wants to talk to us, they usually have to shout over the noise of the grinder. We write our notes on the walls sometimes so we don't forget the dimensions for a job. It’s a messy, loud, and busy life here at Ahir Chowk. We just keep working until the sun goes down and then we lock up the tools and head home. Sometimes the neighborhood kids stop and watch the sparks fly through the open door.
