Hotel Grand International

We run this hotel in the K.K. Bazar area of Bishnupur, which is in the Bankura district of West Bengal. It’s a fairly simple building and we’ve been here for quite some time. We’ve got Ritwick Roy looking after things. It’s a local hotel, so we don't have fancy lobbies with marble floors or anything like that. We just have clean rooms and a place for people to sleep when they are visiting the town. Bishnupur is famous for its temples, so we get a lot of people coming through to see those. We spend most of our time changing sheets, making sure the kitchen has food, and checking people in and out. It’s a lot of physical work and staying on your feet. Sometimes the electricity goes out, but that’s just life in this part of Bengal. We don’t use any marketing tricks to get people here. They usually find us because we are right in the bazaar. It’s a noisy, lively area and we like being in the middle of it. We are just local people running a local business. If you need a bed and a roof over your head, that’s what we provide. It’s as simple as that. The market outside is always full of people selling sweets and clothes. We keep the doors open for anyone needing a rest. It's home for us.
