Our group is called Maalaxmi Bio Fuels Farmer Producer Company Limited, and we operate out of Roshan Singh’s place over in Barouli. It’s a quiet spot, and honestly, most people probably drive right past it without noticing anything. We got interested in the idea of bio fuels because we saw so much waste left over after the harvest. Instead of just burning it or letting it rot, we thought maybe there was a way to make it useful. We aren't scientists or anything; we are just local farmers who have spent a lot of time looking at our fields. It’s been a bit of a learning curve for all of us. There are days when nothing seems to work right, and we spend more time fixing the old machinery than actually processing anything. We don't have a big marketing team or a fancy office with air conditioning. It’s just a shed and a lot of hard work. We talk to the other farmers in the village and ask them to bring their crop waste to us. Some of them think we’re a bit crazy, but some are starting to see the point. We’re just trying to figure it out as we go along. It’s a small effort, and we aren't making much money yet, but it feels like the right thing to do for the land here. We just take it one day at a time, dealing with the heat and the dust of the countryside.
