Vijay Handicraft

You’ll find Vijay Handicraft at 75/B in the Ashoka Housing Society. We are located in the Thergaon area of Chinchwad, right near the Akshay Nursing Home. It’s a residential area, so it’s pretty peaceful compared to the main market. We use a part of the ground floor for our work. There are always piles of wood shavings or bits of cloth around depending on what we are making that week. We don’t have a big staff, just me and a couple of guys from the neighborhood who are good with their hands. We don’t follow a strict corporate schedule. If the work is there, we stay late. If it’s quiet, we might close up early to run errands. It’s an honest way to make a living. The nursing home across the way is a good landmark for people trying to find us for the first time. We focus on making items that people can actually use in their homes. Nothing too fancy or overpriced. Just simple handicrafts. My kids sometimes come by after school and help with the packing. It’s a family-run thing mostly. We’ve lived in Ashoka Housing Society for a long time, so everyone knows what we do here. We just keep our heads down and get the work done. The monsoon season is always a bit tricky because the wood takes longer to dry. We have to clear out the porch to make sure nothing gets wet. We keep a pot of water for anyone passing by who is thirsty.
