You will find Standard Engineering Company at 131/7-B in the Hadapsar Industrial Estate. This part of town is all about manufacturing and hard work. There aren't many trees around, just a lot of sheds and factories. Our building is one of those typical industrial units. It has high ceilings and a big sliding door that stays open most of the day to let the air in. Inside, it smells like grease and cold metal. We have our machinery set up in rows and a small corner partitioned off with plywood for the office work. It’s not air-conditioned, so we use big pedestal fans during the summer. The desk in the office is covered in blueprints and old coffee mugs. We’ve been in Hadapsar for a long time and we know most of the other workshop owners on this lane. We often borrow tools from each other or help out when a machine breaks down. Lunch is usually brought from home and eaten together on a wooden bench out back. We don't have a fancy logo or a sleek reception area. People come to us because they know where we are and they know we’ve been doing this for years. It’s a grit-and-grime kind of place, and that’s exactly how an engineering shop should be. We just keep our heads down and get the jobs finished.
