S M Engineering Works

Working in Nigdi at Indra Nagar 1, you get used to the sound of metal hitting metal pretty fast. S M Engineering Works is basically just a workshop where we spend the whole day covered in a bit of oil and dust. The floor is concrete and has stains that have been there for years. We open up early because that is when the air is still a bit cool before the afternoon heat really kicks in. Nigdi is a busy area with a lot of small shops like ours, so there is always someone coming by to ask for a small fix or just to chat for a bit. We have our tools organized, more or less, but on a busy day, things tend to end up all over the benches. It is not a very quiet place, between the machines running and the traffic outside in Indra Nagar 1, but we don’t mind it much. We have a small table in the back where we keep the water pot and some old newspapers. Sometimes we stay late when there is a lot to finish, and the streetlights outside flick on. There isn't any fancy signage, just the name S M Engineering Works on the door so people know they have the right place. Most of us here have lived around this area for a long time, so we know the neighbors well. It’s just a regular engineering shop doing what needs to be done.
