S M Engineering Company is tucked away in Makarand Apartments over in Kothrud. We are pretty close to Karve Road, so it is usually a bit loud outside with all the cars and rickshaws going by. Our workspace is on the ground floor, which makes it easier when we have to move heavy metal parts or tools in and out. It’s not a big factory, just a decent-sized room where we handle different engineering jobs. Most of the time, the floor is covered in metal shavings or oil, but that is just how it goes when you are working with machines all day. We have a couple of lathes and some welding equipment crammed in there. It gets a bit hot in the afternoons, especially in the summer, but we keep the fans going. We have been doing this for a long time, so we know the local guys who need parts fixed or custom pieces made. Sometimes finding our place is tricky because the apartment entrance is a bit narrow, but once you see the sign, you’ll find us. We aren't big on decorations; we just have our tools and our workbenches. Usually, one of us is wearing greasy overalls and drinking tea while looking at a blueprint. It’s a practical shop for practical people. We don't have a receptionist, so you just walk in and yell for someone if we are in the back working the machines.
