Raviraj Bags is tucked away at number 5 Chakan Road, right in the middle of the Market Yard area. If you know the market, you know it’s a loud and busy place with trucks coming and going all day long. Our shop is right in the thick of it. We deal with all sorts of bags, from those big plastic sacks for hauling goods to nicer ones people use for weddings. It’s a bit of a squeeze inside because we try to stock as much as possible. I’ve been working here so long I can find a specific travel bag even if the lights go out. The walls are covered in shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. Sometimes it’s hard to hear customers over the noise of the traffic on Chakan Road, but we make it work. We don't have any fancy marketing talk here. We just show you what we have and tell you the price. Most of the time, people come in knowing exactly what they need. We have a small desk in the back where I keep the accounts and drink my tea. It’s a bit dusty because of the market nearby, but we try to keep the bags clean. It’s a tough business sometimes, but I like being in the center of things. People come from the surrounding villages to the Market Yard, so we meet all kinds of folks.
