Puranchand & Sons

Market Yard 495/4 is where we spend most of our daylight hours. Puranchand & Sons has been around for a long time, and the building definitely shows its age. It’s a busy place with trucks coming in and out at all hours. We handle a lot of sacks and heavy boxes every single day. The floor is concrete and usually covered in a bit of dust from the goods being moved around. It’s not a quiet job because there is always someone shouting or a horn honking outside in the yard. We have a small wooden desk where we sit to write down orders and talk to the people who come by. Sometimes the weather gets really hot and we just keep the big doors open to catch a breeze. My father used to work here and now we just keep the tradition going without making a big fuss about it. We drink a lot of tea to keep ourselves moving during the afternoon slump. Most of the other shop owners nearby are like family because we’ve seen each other every day for years. There’s no fancy showroom here, just piles of stock and a lot of hard work. We stay until the last truck is loaded and the gates are locked up for the night. It's a simple life, mostly just buying and selling and keeping track of the inventory as it comes through the door.
