Budhwar Peth is one of those areas in Pune where it’s always crowded and there’s never enough parking. Our spot at P No 24 near Appa Balwant Chowk is right in the middle of all that chaos. Pride Engineering is basically a workshop where we deal with a lot of mechanical stuff and metal parts. The noise from the street is constant—scooters, vendors, and people talking—but we’ve gotten used to it. Inside, it smells like oil and metal shavings. We have a couple of heavy workbenches that have seen better days, but they’re solid. Our team is small, and we mostly wear work clothes that are stained with grease. We don't have a big corporate structure; the person who answers the phone is usually the same person who was just working on a lathe. It can get pretty cramped when we have a big order to put together, but we manage. We spend a lot of time double-checking measurements and making sure the parts fit right. Sometimes we sit out on the front step for five minutes just to get away from the noise of the machines. It’s a gritty, honest way to make a living, and we don't try to make it look like something it isn't. The walls are covered in old tool racks and sketches of different parts we’ve made over the years. It’s just us, our tools, and the work that needs finishing.
