Poonam Sarees

Poonam Sarees is located at Sr No 2 in Mahavir Nagar. It’s a busy little spot right in the Viman Nagar area. We usually open up the shutters pretty early in the morning before the sun gets too high. My family has been running this place for a good while now. The shop is filled with sarees from top to bottom. We spend a lot of our time just folding fabrics back up after someone has spent an hour looking through the stacks. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, so we keep the ceiling fans going all day. People walk in from the street, sometimes they are looking for something specific for a wedding and other times they just want to see what is new. We have all kinds of colors and patterns on the wooden racks. The floor is just simple tile and we try to sweep it often, but the dust from the road always finds its way in. It’s a very local shop, nothing fancy or corporate about it. We know most of the people who live around here. The chai guy comes by twice a day and we take a quick break. Sometimes the shop is quiet and we just sit and talk about the news. Then five people will walk in at once and it gets real hectic. We have different materials like silk and cotton. Our sign is visible from the main path. We’ve stayed at this address for years. It’s just how things go here in Mahavir Nagar.
