Our place is at S. No. 1 in Tathawade, which is part of the Mulshi area. We make namkeen and other snack foods here. It’s not a huge setup, just a regular workspace where we spend our days frying and seasoning different snacks. Tathawade has changed a lot lately with more buildings going up everywhere, but we’ve stayed in our spot for a long time. We started this because we liked the idea of making snacks that people can have with their morning tea. It’s a lot of hard work involving big vats of oil and heavy bags of flour that we move ourselves. Sometimes the heat from the stoves gets to be a bit much, but we take breaks when we can. We don’t have a big distribution network or anything fancy like that. Most of what we make goes to local shops or people who stop by the unit themselves. We aren't trying to compete with the big national brands you see on TV every day. We just make our namkeen the way we were taught by our elders. It’s a small team, mostly people from around the neighborhood who need work. We talk while we work to make the time go by faster. There’s always a lot of cleaning to do at the end of the day to keep the place right. We just hope people enjoy the snacks we put out.
