The Sommelier

Our place, The Sommelier, is situated at 567 in the Vastunager Society area of Market Yard. Being in Pune, specifically near the market side, means there is always a lot of movement around us. We deal with drinks and learning about different tastes, but we do it in a very down-to-earth way. The shop isn't meant to feel intimidating or overly fancy. We just have our shelves set up and we spend time looking at labels and talking to people who come in. Sometimes the deliveries arrive late because of the Market Yard traffic, which can be a real headache. We spend a lot of time organizing the bottles and making sure everything is stored the right way. It is a small team here, just a couple of us who actually enjoy what we do. We don't use big words to describe things; we just tell you if something tastes good or if it’s a bit heavy. The society around us is quiet enough, which is a nice change from the main road. We have some regulars who stop by just to see what’s new on the shelf. It’s a steady job. We keep the floor swept and the glass clean. Every day is pretty much the same routine of checking stock and chatting with whoever walks through the door. It’s a local spot for people who want something specific without going to a giant warehouse. We just stay focused on the bottles.
