Matlum Uloom Junior High School

You can find us in New Sangavi, which is a busy part of Pune near the river. The school is a junior high, so we have students who are right in that middle age where they are growing up fast. The building is right in the middle of the residential lanes, so we are very much a part of the local neighborhood. Every morning, you see students in their uniforms walking down the streets to get to class. We have a few floors with classrooms and a small area where the kids gather. It’s a very straightforward place. We don't have big auditoriums or high-tech labs, just regular rooms with desks and chairs. The teachers here are mostly from the Pune area and they have been teaching the same subjects for years. Lunchtime is the loudest part of the day when everyone is out in the corridors eating from their tiffin boxes. We try to keep things orderly, but with junior high students, there is always a bit of chaos. The office is usually piled high with notebooks that need grading. We don't do anything too fancy, just the basic work of running a school and making sure the students learn what they need to. It is a plain, honest school that serves the people living around the New Sangavi area. Most of the parents work nearby, and we see them often when they come by to check on things.
