Mascot Equipment Engineering

Over in Kharadi at 27/1/2, Mascot Equipment Engineering is where we handle the heavy metal work every day. It is not a quiet place at all. There is always the sound of machines running or someone moving steel pipes around on the floor. We started out with just two lathes and a lot of grease back in the day. Now there are more machines, but the work is still the same kind of tough stuff. Our floor is concrete and stained with oil from years of different projects. We don't have a fancy office room; just a metal desk in the corner with a bunch of blueprints and old bills piled up. My shoes are always ruined by the end of the month from the metal shavings. We make parts for other factories and sometimes fix broken machinery that gets trucked in from nearby sites. The sun hits the metal roof in the afternoon and makes it quite hot inside during the summer. We have big fans, but they just move the warm air around. Most of the guys here have been working together for a long time. We know each other’s habits well. If a machine breaks down, we stay late until it’s fixed because the work can't wait. There is no point leaving a job half-done. We drink tea from the stall down the road twice a day to keep going. It’s honest work that gets your hands dirty. We don't spend much time on decorations because they just get covered in iron dust anyway.
