Malika Boys Town High School

It’s a bit unusual for a school to be on the 6th floor of a place like Delta II in Giga Space, but that’s where we are. Viman Nagar is a very busy commercial hub, so the boys get a real sense of the city life just by coming to class. You have to take the elevator up, which can be a bit of a wait when all the office workers are heading to their desks too. Being a high school for boys, there’s never a quiet moment. There’s a lot of energy in these hallways, and sometimes it feels like the building can barely contain it. We don't have a traditional grassy field right outside the door, so we have to be creative with how the kids spend their break time. The view from the windows is mostly other office buildings and the planes taking off from the airport nearby. It’s a modern sort of setup, I suppose. We spend most of our time making sure the boys are actually studying and not just staring out at the traffic below. The teachers here have to be pretty tough to keep up with everyone. It’s not the kind of school you see in old movies, but it works for the families living in this part of Pune. We just show up, do the lessons, and try to keep things running smoothly until the final bell rings and everyone heads back down to the street.
